Electrolysis

Woman's electrolysis hair removalSince 1875 millions of men and women plagued by unwanted hair have benefited from electrolysis. It has become a practical and affordable way to permanently eliminate unwanted hair.

What To Expect

Electrolysis is a simple process of inserting a fine sterilized needle into the follicle alongside the hair to reach the base of the hair root. The follicle is an existing opening, so the fine needle, or filament, does not puncture or break the skin. A mild, split-second electrical current is delivered into the hair follicle to destroy the hair root when the hair is in the growing phase.

Most people who undergo electrolysis describe feeling a slight heat, tingling or stinging sensation depending on the area being treated and the sensitivity of the client. Topical anaesthetic is offered to clients who are more sensitive.

Everyone’s hair grows differently, depending on age, weight, metabolism, hormones, ethnicity, medications, and other factors. But all hair goes through three distinct growth phases:

Active Growth Phase of a Hair Folicle Regressive phase esting phase

Active growth phase

(called the anagen phase), which can last up to 3 months

Regressive phase

(catagen phase), which lasts about 3 days, during which the hair stops growing but is not yet shed

Resting phase

(telogen phase), which lasts 4-14 days, at the end of which the hair falls out and a new hair begins to form

It takes several treatments to a hair in the growth stage to completely get rid of the hair. Waxing and tweezing will cause hair damage, strengthens the hair and distorts it. A series of treatments are recommended over weeks or months.

Hairs can be safely trimmed in between treatments. Other hair removal methods are not recommended while being treated with electrolysis.

Slight redness and some swelling, which goes away in a few hours, may occur after treatment. This is a natural part of the healing process. Avoid any sun tanning or strong sunlight on the affected area for 48 hours. Instructions for recommended treatment at home can be given.

The cost of treatments are moderate for a life time of freedom of unsightly or unwanted hair. Medical authorities agree electrolysis is a positive and permanent way to remove hair.

Electrolysis is the only method of permanent hair removal. It was first developed in the United States in 1875 and later modified in France. A professional and skilled electrologist inserts a fine probe alongside the hair in the follicle. Then a small amount of electrical current or heat is applied to destroy the hair papilla (root) so each hair can then be easily removed. Since hair grows in stages, additional growth may reappear, but subsequent follow-up visits and following a regime will result in permanency.
