MEN: Issues with Unwanted Hair Too!

I get asked by my male clients all the time if I have many male clients that come to me for hair removal treatments. Men have issues with unwanted hair too.

It was less common years ago for men to get hair removed from the face and body as it used to be hair removal was a strictly a female thing.

Not so anymore.  Experts report that more and more men are opting for the same grooming rights as women including smooth body skin.

Most men don’t necessarily want it all removed but increasingly they do want it thinned out on their back, chest, shoulders and arms.  Men seeking hair removal now make up a good portion of my clientele.

There are a lot of men wanting to take away that unibrow look and facial hair so as not to have to shave again.  Let’s not forget about the ears and back of the neck they want cleaned up as well.

At the same time various media reports suggest that many men are now opting for that long-time staple of female grooming – the bikini wax.

Hair Removal Options:

Unlike women, for whom hair removal is second nature by junior high school, men often find themselves at a loss for how to deal with excess body hair.  For those men, here are the most common hair removal options:

  1. Laser Hair Removal Using light energy to penetrate the hair shaft, it actually kills the hair root. 96% permanent method.
  2.

  3. Waxing – Soy waxes, a cream lotion is applied to the skin. It adheres only to the hair. Cloths are layered over cream. When the mixture dries, cloths are removed, hair is gone. Not a permanent method.
  4.

  5. ElectrolysisWorks for hair removal equally well on all areas. The treatments shorten as time goes on. It’s a long term commitment but a permanent one! Fully permanent method.
  6.

  7. Shaving – While shaving is fast and easy it can increase the risk of ingrown hairs, it’s more likely to develop infections caused by the ingrown hairs. Not a permanent method.
  8.

  9. Depilatories / Cream Hair Removal – It attacks the proteins in the hair and dissolves them, causing the hair to fall out. Do patch test before using to make sure your skin doesn’t react. If there is burning, itching or redness, wipe off immediately and don’t use it. Not a permanent method.

In short, men face the same issues and obstacles as women when it comes to removal of excess hair. They deal with the same frustration and mess.

Hair removal for men used to be mainly for athletes such as body builders or swimmers. Now many men remove excess hair to improve their looks and the health of their skin. Hair removal for men is socially acceptable and is more prevalent in the media. Many male celebrities, including singers, dancers, actors and athletes have had hair removed. It is no longer considered an unmanly or effeminate practice. Men are now free to groom or remove their hair according to their own preference.
